Petriș commune, Arad county, was established in 1968.
Petriș commune is a commune bordering Arad county, located on the border with Hunedoara county, consisting of the localities Petriș (commune residence), Seliște, Ilteu, Corbești, Roșia Nouă and Obârșia.
Located at the foot of the Zarand Mountains, on the right bank of the Mureș River, the commune of Petriș is bordered to the north by the administrative territory of the communes of Brazii and Gurahonț, to the east by the commune of Zam, in Hunedoara County, to the south by the Mureș River and the commune of Zam, in Hunedoara County, and to the west by the commune of Săvârșin, in Arad County.
The commune of Petriș is located 106 km away from the city of Arad and 56 km away from the city of Deva. It is connected to these localities not only by the DN7 (E68) road but also by the 200 railway line Arad-Deva-Sibiu-Bucharest. Both Petriș and the neighboring locality of Ilteu have railway stations.
Within its administrative boundaries, the commune of Petriș has a surface area of 13,059 hectares. It features the characteristic landscape of the Mureș Valley, with an alternation between flat areas in the floodplain of the Mureș River and hilly areas at the foothills of the Zarand Mountains.
According to the results of the Population and Housing Census of 2021, the population of the commune is of 1,283 inhabitants. The majority of the residents hold Romanian citizenship and identify themselves as being of Romanian ethnicity.
